How we validated our idea
An app that facilitates the forming of new, real life friendships for adults
- People are using existing products to find friends (eg. over 25,000 Facebook & Meetup groups for finding friends)
- People are joining new services to find friends (eg. over 3 million active users on Bumble BFF)
- Our co-founder built a Facebook group of over 20,000 women in Perth (~2% of total adult female population) looking to meet friends.
- We spoke to hundreds of people to to get their feedback on existing products - on average user satisfaction was very low across all platforms:
- Meetup - low platform engagement, sporadic activity, poor follow through
- Bumble BFF - superficial, cliquey
- Facebook Groups - unrefined results (can't filter by age, location, interests etc), negative experiences (spam, soap box, bullying etc)
- Many users either became disheartened & gave up, or continued to use these platforms because no better alternative was available
- We used Rahul Vohra's product market fit engine methodology to survey these users and inform our product roadmap
